A 50-mile, 2-day pilgrimage of thanksgiving will be made from the Mission of
St. Isidore the Farmer near Watkins, CO to the Mother Cabrini Shrine located
west of Golden, CO, August 24 - 25. This is the sixth pilgrimage being made
in thanksgiving for the 1999 intercession of Mother Cabrini to assure the
successful 2001 completion of the massive $2.3 million St. Isidore facility.
Parishioners will push a 5' high statue of Mother Cabrini, mounted on a
small cart, along the pilgrimage route in order to demonstrate the benefit
of the saints patronage in the completion of the church. About 60 to 100
Pilgrims are expected to participate.
The first day of the pilgrimage will begin following a 5:00 a.m. Friday Mass, and conclude 28 miles later in the vicinity of I-70 & Federal,
the site of Mother Cabrini's Denver home and orphanage. The next day will
begin at 7:00 a.m. and finish at the Statue of the Sacred Heart located at
the top of the mountain above the Cabrini Shrine at about 5:00 p.m. Fr.
Joseph Lester, a Catholic priest, will celebrate a Catholic Latin
Tridentine High Mass at 6:00 p.m. near the gates to the Cabrini Shrine.
A similar Pilgrimage was completed in June 2002, but was marred when the
Denver Archdiocese refused to allow the Catholic Latin Tridentine Mass to be
celebrated on the grounds of the Cabrini Shrine. There have been
Theological disagreements between Rome and the Society of St. Pius the Tenth
(SSPX), since 1988 when its founder consecrated four Bishops without Rome's
permission. A turning point toward healing the rift occurred in 2000 when
Cardinal Dario Castrillon Hoyos, head of the Pontifical Commission, greeted
three SSPX Bishops as "my fellow Catholic Bishops" during a Pilgrimage
to Rome attended by 5000 supporters. The St. Isidore
Pilgrims will pray many Rosaries during the 50-mile journey that the
Archdiocese will allow Fr. Lester to celebrate the Latin Tridentine Mass on
the grounds of the Shrine.
The Priests of the Priestly Fraternity of the Society of St. Pius Tenth
(SSPX) is an international Catholic religious order founded by the
late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre in 1970 with the permission of the Bishop of
Lausanne, Geneva, and Fribourg, Switzerland. The SSPX is dedicated to the
preservation of the traditional Catholic faith, especially through the
Tridentine (Latin) Mass, and the teaching of the Catholic faith as professed
by the doctors of the Catholic Church over the past 2,000 years. For more
