She was the sister of St. Lazarus and St. Mary of Bethany. A true friend of Our Lord Jesus, hostess to him in her house. She may have been part of an early mission to France.

She is also known as Wonder Worker of Southern Gaul.

Novena to St. Martha 

( This Novena is prayed on nine consecutive Tuesdays and involves lighting a candle. Pray especially beginning on July 21 and ending on July 29, the Feast of St. Martha.)

St Martha, I resort to thy aid and protection. As proof of my affection and faith, I offer thee this light (light a candle), which I shall burn every Tuesday. Comfort me in all my difficulties and through the great favors thou didst enjoy when the Saviour was lodged in thy house.

Intercede for my family, that we be provided for in our necessities. I ask of thee, St Martha, to overcome all difficulties as thou didst overcome the dragon which thou had'st at thy feet.
